Education

Stanford University B.A., History I realize that my degree is in the humanities, rather than my tutoring focus of math / science. If I had college to do over again, I would have chosen Computer Science, with some math and physics included. I currently work part-time with residential and small business computer clients.

Experience

I have explained math and science clearly for more than 15 years and more than 10,000 hours to hundreds of students, of all abilities, from middle school to college level. I try to work cooperatively and conversationally with each student, get to know their situation, needs and priorities, and adjust the lessons to fit that individual. I discuss concepts using multiple materials to develop understanding, and then practice problems with students, while coaching them, to develop memory and mastery. My goal is to equip students to study and think for themselves.

Hobbies

My main hobby right now is hiking. I live in the East Bay part of the San Francisco Bay Area, and nearby there a quite a few open spaces, regional parks, and one excellent state park. So the number and quality of trails are quite high. In the past, I was the head coach of girls soccer teams (5 years), so I have some hands-on experience with youth sports. I am fairly active in my local church.
